In
the early days of the Society Mr. Alfred Moore, Member of the House of
Keys for Rushen, accepted an invitation to become the Society's
President. He showed great interest and attended every play but on the
evening of his attendance he always regarded it as his duty to give a
speech during the first interval! Fortunately this practice has not
been continued by his successors. Following Mr. Moore's death Mr. H.C.Wilkinson, OBE, MA, the Island's Director of Education became the President and was enormously supportive. He and his wife seldom, if ever, missed a play until they became too old and infirm to travel and they also attended most of the Society's annual general meetings. Successor to Mr. Wilkinson is the current President, Stan Woollock, OBE, AFC, a man who has acted in many of the Society's productions, produced and directed on numerous occasions and served on the committee first as an ordinary member and then as chairman. |
