In
the late 1970s the Manx Amateur Drama Federation organised
a residential youth drama weekend in one of the hotels in Port Erin and
relied heavily upon help from the Rushen Society. In the spring of 1986
the Rushen Players themselves held weekly youth drama workshops in the
Erin Arts Centre. At the annual general meeting held in June of that
year it was reported that these workshops had been well supported and
had resulted in the recruitment of a few more members. On the basis of
this success it was decided to continue the project until the end of
the year. In connection with the play 'Sand Castles', presented in the millennium year, the Society was invited to send representatives to a one-day workshop at Bolton, to be attended and addressed by the play's author, Bob Larbey. Vera Moon and Stan Woollock were pleased to avail themselves of this opportunity. Over the past 10 years Rushen Players have participated in drama workshops organised by MADF on topics ranging from acting, directing and technical aspects of live theatre. |
