Looking to the Future

Participation in amateur drama demands commitment and dedication, especially in the weeks leading up to staging a play. Most members of the Society have other interests and responsibilities too and may not always find it easy to spare time for learning lines and for spending two nights a week at rehearsals. At the conclusion of a production there is often a feeling of anticlimax and the Committee has to consider how to keep the interest and enthusiasm of members alive until the next play.

Add to this the problems that can arise when there is no suitable acting role to offer for someone who is longing to take part. Disappointment will inevitably ensue and the situation may require tactful handling to avoid losing a member, all of whom are valuable, whatever contribution they may be able to offer.

Over the past fifty years experience has shown that the organisation and administration of an amateur dramatic society may not always be plain sailing but there is usually a way round every problem and there is every reason to suppose that the Rushen Amateur Dramatic Society (now Rushen Players) will continue to flourish and to attain its objectives for many years ahead. At the time of compiling this record of the Society's history (2001) it is pleasing to note that the number of members is approaching fifty and audiences are being attracted from all parts of the Island.

This website is our first real attempt to bring the Society into the Digital age. We hope that the historical and future productions of the Society will be recorded for posterity. If on reading this you remeber some relevant anccdotes or find an old programme or photograph, please contact us to explore if we can include your revelations - Many thanks!
