Next Sharon Roberts delivers, with alarming sincerity a
‘Confession’. This was one of several
clever and funny sketches
written for ‘The
Secret Policeman's Ball’ by the prolific writer Michael Frayn.
To round off the first half of the evening, Pat Clewis
will make you smile, even laugh, at the same time tugging at your
heartstrings, as she portrays the feisty, independent Doris, fighting her care
worker tooth and nail as she resists
being dumped into a Care Home.
Written by Alan Bennett for his ‘Talking
Heads’ series and directed by Catie Angus.
‘A Cream Cracker Under the
Settee’ is Bennett at his very best and I am sure that he would love Pat's
portrayal of Doris!
After refreshments in Harry's Bar, come back to enjoy the
last play of the evening - David Mamet's surreal and
quirky ‘The Duck Variations’. Two old guys meet
up each day on a park bench and muse upon the
Meaning of Life. On this particular Easter afternoon, George's
sighting of the first duck of the season triggers
the subject for the day's
discussion. Definitely Duck-orientated, but much else besides!
Graham Roberts as George and Brian Matthews as Emil, try to
outdo each other with their knowledge;
they
challenge, argue, wax lyrically (often into ridiculous flights of fancy). Directed
by Adrienne Sanderson.
