Adapted from Keith Waterhouse's
novel, this play is a slice of family life in the Fisher household. Set
in 1960 in a northern industrial town, three generations inhabit the
Fisher home. \Grandma, firmly rooted in her gritty Northern past, lives
with daughter Alice and son-in-law Geoffrey who have moved up the
social scale, from cobbled streets to the leafy suberbia of lower
middle class. enjoyment of this status is marred by their dreamy son,
Billy, whose constant fantastical stories drive them to distraction,
but serve Billy to escape from the reality of his stifling home life
and dreary job as an undertakers clerk. |
